Bed bug lawsuit filed against Rent-A-Center

Written by buycheaffoftsa on May 19, 2012 – 8:11 pm -

Customer says she bought couch with bed bugs

A woman is suing after she said furniture she rented from Rent-A-Center was infested with bed bugs.

Leah Angle said she was just trying to provide a comfortable home for her family when she rented furniture from a Rent-A-Center in the 6100 block of Scott Street.

She said the same day she got the two couches home, something disturbing happened.

“My boyfriend complained about sitting on the furniture, and he said he was itching,” said Angle.

At first, Angle said she thought it was an allergic reaction to something her boyfriend ate, but two days later, Angle said she and her 4-year-old son were experiencing painful symptoms too.

“Blisters started popping up everywhere,” she said.

After a trip to the hospital, Angle said her fears were confirmed. She said her entire family was suffering from bed bug bites.

Angle said she captured some of the bugs on her camera phone. She said her boyfriend, Hardy Moore, got the brunt of the bites and the resulting scaring.

“It’s really horrendous because even after the process of taking the medicine, you still go through stages of 30 to 45 days of pain,” said Moore.

Daylight And More Sunlight!

Written by admin on May 13, 2012 – 12:04 am -

Eco-friendly gardens are not without some of the downsides that each garden has. One of those flaws are assorted types of pests. In a normal or non eco-friendly garden robust chemicals are frequently used to battle the pests. In a traditional garden you fight these pests in an other way than in your organic garden. For example ensure you plant your vines away from consistently wet ground. Remember, daylight, daylight and more daylight! Another good tip for grape bug control is to plant your vines parallel to prevailing winds and where there's a lot of aeration. Some individuals advocate the snipping off the leaf above and below a growing vine to reduce the advancement of illness. Soap water is a good way to dispose of aphids.

Maybe the best way is to buy a test kit, but they don't seem to be totally correct or all-encompassing. Soil testing is sort of straightforward and can be acheived in several ways. We endorse finding the closest rural Extension Programme and contacting them. Remember, healthy soil will produce healthy plants, and healthy plants are way more proof against pests. Chippie ants are another concern and generally begin to show up in the spring. One of the worst things about them is that their habitats are inside as well as outside. They desire somewhere to live and to do that they must rip and tear the wood apart to form nests.

They have an inclination to enjoy being around crumbling wood and are most simply recognized by sawdust being around structures. These pest-repelling devices won't work correctly if used in association with other pest management methods like poisons, as you are attempting to drive away the pest on one hand, and tantalizing him back with a flavorful treat on the other. These units make environment for rodent awfully uncomfortable and will drive your undesired guests away. DIY bug control is a fast speedy pest management solution for anyone to consider. It is worth having a look at pest prevention after the original problem has been fixed, therefore reducing the probability of re-infestation in the following years ahead.

Days Inn O'Fallon sued following alleged bed bug infestation

Written by clubpenguinbookcodes on May 11, 2012 – 6:10 am -

A couple from Nashville, Tennessee is suing an OFallon hotel for more than $250,000 following an alleged infestation of bed bugs during their stay. The hotels attorneys are fighting to dismiss the case and the hotel manager says bed bugs are not a problem.

Antwaine and Woodrow Ross allege the Days Inn OFallon hotel knew the critters Cinex lectularius, commonly known as bed bugs due to their tendency to be found in bedding, infested their rooms. The suit claims hotel employees did not warn guests of the bugs before they stayed in the hotel from March 19, 2010 through May 21, 2010, according to court documents.

The Rosses seek more than $50,000 from each of five counts, which include claims the hotel violated the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Practices Act by concealing the infestation. Days Inn attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss four of the five counts claiming in part that the Rosses misapprehend what constitutes a nuisance and a concurrent suit to stop an alleged nuisance and they fail to show the Days Inn acted with deliberate intention to harm.

Current hotel manager David Boan said the company has a different owner since the Rosses stayed at the hotel, located at 1320 Park Plaza Drive. He said bed bugs have not been an issue since he began employment with the company in November 2011, but noted the nuisance can be commonly treated.

Bed bugs feed off the blood of sleeping humans, causing itching and bumps to their victims. The lawsuit was filed against the hotels owner group, Caseyville Hotel Investors LLC, on March 21 in St. Clair County court. The manager of the owner group is Sanjay T. Patel, according to a database hosted on the website of the Illinos Secretary of State. Patel did not respond to a request to be interviewed.

The Rosses allege the bed bugs hitched a ride in their luggage from the hotel to their home in Tennessee. The couple claims the infestation forced them to destroy clothing, furniture, bedding, a mattress, and to fumigate the home. Along with reimbursement for those alleged losses, the couple also claims the infestation caused extensive emotional distress and loss of sleep and seek compensation for medical treatment and residual scarring from the bugs.

When the couple complained to the hotel, they claim the property manager at the time and other employees confirmed some rooms in the hotel had bed bugs, according to court documents.

The Better Business Burea has rated the hotel a C+, mostly due to three allegations of bed bug-related issues since 2010. The complaints stem from stays in October 2011, November 2011, and March 2012.

In the October 2011-related complaint, representatives with Days Inn OFallon say the company takes complaints of bed bugs very seriously since it could destroy us in a very short period and point to a national epidemic of the pests in 2010.

To prevent bed bug issues, the hotel states a program was instituted in 2010 that included:

Bed Bugs Take Over Whitehaven Job Corps Campus

Written by Woonyanesty on May 11, 2012 – 6:10 am -

(Memphis) Students gathered at the front gate of Benjamin Hooks Job Corps Center in Whitehaven. They protested an ongoing problem there; bed bugs.

Im not going to say Job Corps is a bad place, but we want our voices to be heard, said Latoya Daniels who is a student there.

But our conversation was cut short when center directors came out to break up the students gathering.

I was able to see one student had bites all over his arms. Latoya Daniels stuck around and talked to me after everyone else left. She says not enough is being done to get rid of the bed bugs. When she came to center three weeks ago, she was warned by staff.

They told me to bring my own sheets, they were infested with bed bug, said Daniels. I always thought bedbugs were a myth until I got here to Job Corps and then I got bit and people had them in a bag and were showing them around.

Directors of the center say theyre working to get rid of the problem. John Colenberg offered up a statement, The center director along with the regional office and health inspectors are working towards a process to eliminate those issues.

A different director told me off camera they sprayed chemicals as well as used heat treatments to try to get rid of the bugs but he says it has not fixed the problem. A request was made to let the students out early for their summer break so they can get rid of the bugs without putting the health of their students in danger.

I prefer not to get eaten up, Daniels said, as she laughed.

She says shes grateful for the education Job Corps is giving her, but hopes they stand by their word and get the bed bugs out.

BedBug Chasers Franchises Its Bed Bug Killing Business

Written by Fatainvictutt on May 8, 2012 – 9:10 am -

LITTLE SILVER, N.J., May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — BedBug Chasers, a World Class provider of heat remediation services and manufacturer of US made bed bug heat remediation equipment is franchising its service business. The business features a low entry cost, is a 100% chemical free and Green enterprise, and will be offered through the BedBug Chaser Franchise Corporation.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120508/CG01754)

The cornerstones of this booming franchise program features exclusive access to the patented BedBug Chaser heaters, the BedBug Chasers nationwide rental fleet and training on the BedBug Chasers propriety process. The BedBug Chaser heaters have proven to show a higher ROI than other brands on the market by substantially decreasing treatment times and the ability to heat a larger square foot area per heater.

Outbreaks of bed bug infestations have been sweeping across the United States for the past 5 years in epidemic proportions. Bed bugs have gotten so out of control that the 111th Congress introduced bill H.R.2248 — Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite Act where the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was tasked to investigate the public health implications of bed bugs on lodging and housing. That study centered around the impacts on mental health from bed bugs, their potential for spreading infectious disease, and their contributing to other diseases such as asthma. All studies thus far have agreed that “heat” is one of, if not the safest and most effective way to kill all stages of bed bugs including nymphs and eggs. This further reinforces the time is now for a business like BedBug Chasers to franchise.

In recent times, the media has reported on stories about “super chemical resistant” bed bugs and the dangers that many chemicals pose to people who are exposed to them. BedBug Chasers has researched and developed an eco-friendly and cost effective way to put an end to these chemical resistant bed bug infestations and is making that solution available through its franchise program.

We caught up with VP of Operations Larry Smith to discuss the franchise offering, “BedBug Chasers is the only complete franchised business system to kill bed bugs on premises with 100% chemical free Green electric heat remediation. No other company has all the pieces that we have; manufacturing, proprietary equipment, continued product development and scalability through our rental network. This puts us on Top and in a position to soon be the largest bed bug killing business in the US. Our ROI and Cost per kW is such that BedBug Chasers franchisees can compete dollar for dollar with a properly done chemical treatment, which we all know does not always work. BUT our heat does, every time. BedBug Chasers will become a top rated franchise in a very short time frame because you don’t have to be an exterminator to do this. In many states there is no special license required so this is the perfect opportunity for returning Veterans, middle management caught up in downsizing or tradesman looking to become entrepreneurs!”

About BedBug Chasers:

BedBug Chasers is a nationwide heat remediation franchised sales, service and rental company providing a 100% Green and Chemical-Free alternative to eliminating bedbugs and other insects in commercial, residential and industrial environments. Using its proprietary, state of the art electric heat technology, BedBug Chasers equipment is capable of facilitating fast, effective and inexpensive heat remediation services throughout the United States. Nina In New York: We’ve Won The War On Imaginary Bed Bugs

Written by rsaffern on April 30, 2012 – 11:11 pm -

New York City is using specifically trained beagles, like this one, in the battle to eradicate bed bugs. (Photo by STAN HONDA/AFP/Getty Images)

A lighthearted look at news, events, culture and everyday life in New York.______________________

Just the other day I passed an exterminators truck on 49th street and I thought to myself, where has all the hysterical bed bug coverage gone? A year ago, the sight of that vehicle would have sent me into itchyhyperventilation. Now, I barely flinch. And though part of that is due to intensive psychological rehabilitation, I cant help but make the connection that the more headlines there are announcing the bed bug invasion, the crazier I feel. So conversely, the news items I read on the subject, the less stressed I feel. Just thinking about this made me launch headfirst into a whirlpool of neurosis, unfortunately.

Are there fewer bed bugs now, all of a sudden, when every report last year claimed the problem was only going to get exponentially worse until finally the human race would become entirely consumed by bugs and slowly become them? No, that seemed unlikely! (I mean, the part about there being fewer bugs, not the other stuff. Im pretty sure that other stuff is exactly what the news people were saying.) Ive simply let my guard down. How sloppy and reckless of me! Or perhaps there was a winter lull and the summer season is about to ramp back up. Its about to start all over again. I need to resume vigilance.

More: NYCs Bed Bug Guide

Only now Ive come to find out that there really are fewer bed bugs in the city compared to last year. Or rather, there are fewerreports of bed bugs compared to last year. And fewer violations have been handed out. At least, according to the city, who feels their efforts to educate the public and hold landlords and business owners accountable are working. Natch. Also according to at least one exterminator, who attributed his decrease in calls to the fact that a lot of the hype has disappeared.

Ah. So, essentially, the number ofimaginarybed bug infestations has gone down. Well. I guess Im living proof of that.

NOTSOFAST says another exterminator interviewed for the piece. While the citys 311 hotline may be getting fewer calls, he certainly isnt and wants us to know that bed bugs are as active as ever! Its just that people are dealing privately rather than reporting their landlords to the city. Which on the one hand means landlords are taking better initiative and responsibility. On the other hand, this guy obviously has a stake in the general publics level of fear and paranoia staying at very healthy red alert levels. Imaginary emergency calls could be this guys bread and butter! Between me and my brother alone, the pest control industry made a pretty penny without having to do much heavy lifting at all. The dog sniffs a few times here, they lay a few gas bombs there, bibbidy bobbidy boo your fictitious bugs go poof.

So whom to believe? Im going to have to go with the city on this one, for purely self-preservation purposes. Id rather exterminate all of the hallucinated bed bugs from my brain. I think they were always more numerous than the real, live ones.

That being said, Im still not sure when Ill ever enter a movie theater in the city again. I mean, please. Lets not get carried away.

Bedbug Complaints To The City Are Down, Problem Far From Eradicated

Written by CypeceriErync on April 26, 2012 – 5:10 pm -

New York City is using specifically trained beagles, like this one, in the battle to eradicate bed bugs. (Photo by STAN HONDA/AFP/Getty Images)

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) The city said Tuesday that 311 complaints about bedbugs have decreased by 12 percent since last year, but experts told 1010 WINS reporter Sonia Rincon that does not mean that the problem has gone away.

Councilwoman Gale Brewer, author of the Bedbug Bill, said that the drop is most likely attributed to New Yorkers developing a better understanding of how to deal with the bugs.

1010 WINS Reporter Sonia Rincon spoke with city officials and bug experts

They have to work with the exterminatorto examine the apartment on adjacent sides, up and down. They have to hire an exterminator who really knows what to do, Brewer said.

Brewer told WINS that hotels, condos, co-ops and apartment tenants have become more proactive in fighting the bugs, which is important because exterminators say that the problem is far from eliminated.

I dont see much break in it at all actually, said Barry Pollack, an exterminator with New York Bed Bug Dogs.

Pollack told 1010 WINS thatover the past year the bugs have gotten more resilient.

National Bed Bug Expert to Present at The Bed Bug Invasion Seminar in South Bend

Written by Plenrellats on April 26, 2012 – 5:10 pm -

Kalamazoo, MI (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Dr. Jerome Goddard (http://www.jeromegoddard.com/), national expert on the medical effects of bed bug bites will be the keynote speaker at The Bed Bug Invasion seminar, hosted by Griffin Pest Solutions, on April 27 at the Gillespie Conference Center in South Bend, Indiana.

Dr. Jerome Goddard, a medical entomologist in the Bureau of Environmental Health, Mississippi Department of Health, will present his study, Bed Bugs (Cimex lectularius) and Clinical Consequences of Their Bites, published by the Journal of American Medicine Association.

We are very pleased to have Dr. Goddard as our keynote speaker, stated Jeff Spencer, Associated Certified Entomologist and Vice President for Griffin Pest Solutions. His presentations are very entertaining and more importantly, very informative.

The seminar will target area departments of community health, hospitals, multi-unit housing communities, colleges and universities, assisted living facilities and the hospitality industry. There will be in-depth, expert discussions about medical issues associated with bed bugs and strategies for prevention, detection, control and management.

In addition to Goddard, attorney Jeff Lipman (http://www.lipmanlawfirm.com/j/) will present on bed bug litigation. Lipman is a Polk County Magistrate Judge and practices law in Des Moines, Iowa. Lipman is currently involved in the nation’s first class action involving bed bugs. Attendees will learn what claims generally consist of and what steps should be taken to avoid potential bed bug lawsuits.

Other expert speakers will provide an overview of bed bugs, including their history and current status. A recommended plan of action will be presented to businesses that may suspect or find bed bugs in their establishments. Participants will gain knowledge of they types of treatment available and the pros and cons of each. Information will also be presented on bed bug scent detection dogs.

Nationwide, bed bugs are a significant issue, Jeff Spencer, Associated Certified Entomologist and Vice President for Griffin Pest Solutions, explains. And, while many equate bed bugs with poor sanitation, this is a myth. A five-star resort is just as susceptible as a local motel.

And, once an infestation occurs, without the expertise of a pest professional, they are extremely difficult to remove. Bed Bugs are not picky about where they live. They can travel easily from beds to sofa cushions; room to room; and in suitcases during travel. They can occur in a hotel room, college dorm or even a movie theater.

The seminar registration fee is $39 per person. The fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and seminar materials; pre-registration is required due to seating limitations.

Bedbug infestations not uncommon at Middle Georgia hotels, apartments

Written by EuroniAperporlinz on April 22, 2012 – 5:10 pm -

When Vinnie Orene Fennell got her first bedbug bite, she thought it was a mosquito bite. She didnt think much of it.

Over the course of the next few days, she noticed more red spots on her arms but assumed it was some kind of light rash. Then one night she saw a little bug crawling on her bed at the Rodeway Inn on Eisenhower Parkway, where the Mobile, Ala., resident was staying while dealing with a legal matter in Macon.

I went to flick it off and that thing burst and there was just a good quarter(-sized) area of blood, and I about fainted, Fennell said.

She slept in the other bed that night, but when she checked herself the next morning she realized she had so many bites over her left side, she appeared to have measles. Finally it struck her: She had been a meal for bedbugs.

It took a few minutes for me to wrap my mind around that sudden realization, the 72-year-old Fennell wrote in a letter to the hotel chain. Seriously, it was like someone telling me that people had been discovered on Mars. It was just that alien to me.

Fennell is not the only visitor to Middle Georgia to encounter these blood suckers of yesteryear.

The 13 counties that make up the North Central Health District have had 38 verified bedbug complaints since the beginning of 2011, said Carla Coley, the district environmental health director.

Statewide, there were 132 verified complaints within the same period, but the true statewide number is almost certainly higher because of the way the records were searched and because they include only the 131 counties that use the same reporting system, Coley said.

Plus, the majority of bedbug infestations probably arent reported, Coley said.

For every one where the public calls us, there are going to be five to 10 were not going to get, she said.

Look for bed bug waste (dark spots on your mattress), discarded skin and eggs in your bedding and in the folds of your mattresses.

The pesky pests may have finally met their match!

More On How to Kill Bed Bugs Effectively

To kill bed bugs at home, vacuum your living space relentlessly, including furniture, changing the bag outside (hatchlings can wiggle through a stitch hole). Wash or dry clean everything moveable (clothes, bedspreads, throw rugs) in hottest water to effectively kill bed bugs.

Completely strip all bedding. Fold bedding in on itself to contain the bugs; wash it or dry clean at high temps to kill bed bugs with heat. Interesting factoid: in hot desert areas, folks with infestations often hang bedding and clothes in the blistering sun — remember that temps over 113 kill bed bugs.

Dogs the latest weapon in fight against bed bugs

Written by MCTanyaMsk on April 18, 2012 – 1:10 pm -

Dewayne Taylor is a Junction City councilman by night and a hired killer by day.

He works for Four Seasons Pest Control, all over Kentucky, in both private homes and with commercial contracts. His job includes exterminating bed bugs, a pest that has made a comeback in the United States since the use of DDT was discontinued.

Isee ads with companies guaranteeing to get rid of them, but no reputable company would say such a thing, said Taylor. We treat and, if needed, we treat again. You go on vacation and bring them back, and we treat again. Its probably going to be an ongoing battle.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the bugs carry no diseases but, like mosquitos, feed on blood and can cause itchy red, welt-like bites.

They can hitchhike into homes on the bottoms of shoes, luggage or infested furniture and hide in places like crevices of mattresses and behind headboards attached to walls. One of the tell-tale signs of their existence is dark-stained splotches in the seams of mattresses or box springs or bedside upholstered chairs.

The stains are the dried excrement produced from digesting human blood.

Taylor said the real damage an infestation does is to peoples nerves. Its mentally a strain. The nerves get all tore up.

When treating homes for bed bugs, Taylor wears a hazmat suit that he throws away afterward.

The main thing is to keep people out after we apply chemicals, he said. At least six hours, but Id say 24 to be certain.

In addition to chemicals, theres a new weapon in the fight to eradicate bed bugs dogs.

Some of us are fortunate enough to not have the problem of dealing with a sinus infection, but for the many of us that do it can be a real pain. Its usually followed by a viral infection when a bacterium has entered the sinus cavities and mucus buildup causes inflammation of the nasal passageways, making it hard to breathe and other common symptoms such as headaches, constant pressure in the eyes, nose and face. In chronic cases the symptoms are intensified and it may also be accompany by fever and severe coughing. Thats why we seek out instant relief from the dreaded sinus infection. Sinus problems seem to affect everyone these days. Many try to relieve the headache pressure by using very warm cloths over the eyes. Another remedy would be the use of a saline solution in the nose. A warm compress can work wonders. To make a compress, run hot water over a wash cloth, wring out, let cool for a moment, and then place over the face. The compress can be placed over the eyes and nose. Doing this several times a day can lessen some symptons.

Sinus irrigation is one natural method for treating Sinusitis as well as preventing it. This practice includes running a stream of warm saline water mixture through one nostril and letting it drain out the other. Debris and bacteria are then washed out of the sinus cavities, preventing infection and clearing the airways.

Bed Bug Blog

Written by admin on April 14, 2012 – 6:38 pm -

It’s a bugs life? At least when you’re talking about bed bugs it is.

For over a year our customer service lines have been jumping with bed bug calls. We’ve seen some serious increases in call levels and it looks like no end in site. People are just getting desperate for help. Just about every state in the US and Canada are now facing this crisis. People are looking for a natural bed bug killer, and we have it!

Bed bugs are more than just little pests. They are human parasites and people are their host. They spread like wildfire and are hard to root out. They are shy and hide very well. Their eggs are just about invisible and the adults can flatten down and squeeze into just about any crack to move from room to room.

You can get rid of bed bugs and we do have excellent non-toxic bed bug treatment solutions that have helped thousands of hopelessly infested households. The secret is not to stress over the infestation. Just get the products you need and get to it.

If you live in an apartment or condo with adjoining walls between bedrooms you have a real problem. You can ignore it if you want to, but you’ll be better off in the long run if you take the step to get involved with neighbors to make sure every apartment that could be infested is doing their part to fix the problem.

We get many angry calls from apartment owners asking for advice on exterminating bed bugs in several apartments in a complex. The first thing is to treat the infestation like a site-wide problem. Stop trying to cover it up and hide the fact from other tenants. No offense but that is just wrong thinking. You have to get everyone involved. Otherwise the bed bugs (who are really adept at hiding and waiting for weeks) will just migrate through the walls, baseboards, electrical circuits, plumbing, etc into other units and take hold there.

That is the main reason we started this blog. It is time to tell the truth and all face facts about bed bug infestation and the spread of their habitat into homes everywhere. Luckily, we have the bed bug killer you are looking for.

Visit our home site for more information on the nuts and bolts of killing bed bugs and ridding your home of them.

Until next time…

Free Information Resource on Bed Bugs

bed bugsLawrenceville, N.J. (Vocus) February 5, 2010

The public now has access to one of the web’s most comprehensive information resources concerning bed bug treatment and prevention. The online resource, Bed Bugs 101™, was created by research entomologists in response to the amount of inaccurate or ineffective information available to the public.

The web resource, which can be found at Bed Bug Central™, was recently updated with the latest bed bug prevention and treatment methods by renowned research entomologists Richard Cooper and Jeff White. The updated content even includes tips on how to create your own do-it-yourself bed bug monitor.

The Purpose of Bed Bugs 101

Richard Cooper acknowledges that the main purpose of Bed Bugs 101 is to provide a trusted source of information so that people can make informed decision when dealing with bed bugs.

“Unfortunately, the internet has become a place that has a great deal of poor information. We created Bed Bugs 101 to serve as a trusted and accurate information resource for the public. Having researched bed bugs extensively and designed entire treatment protocols, we can ensure this happens,” said Cooper.

The Purdue Entomology Department observes that individuals who discover an infestation in their home will often experience emotional stress. This stress can lead to detrimental knee-jerk decisions such as throwing away their clothing and furniture.

According to Richard Cooper, items such as these can often be safely treated and put back in use, preventing unnecessary expense. These actions may even spread the infestation if done improperly, making treatments more complex and expensive.

“When a bed bug is found, people tend to make impulsive decisions that they believe will rid them of the infestation, but in actuality, they may exacerbate the situation. Educating people so that they can stop impulsive decisions is one of the most important reasons we created Bed Bugs 101,” said White.

Recent updates to Bed Bugs 101 include coverage of new tools for earlier detection, bed bug dry ice traps and other bed bug monitoring methods. A new section has also been added for people who need help determining what methods are effective to treat bed bugs.

The basics are also covered such as: identifying bed bugs, inspecting for infestations, preventing infestations, what to do if you find infestations while addressing a wide breadth of other topics.

In addition to Bed Bugs 101, the website Bed Bug Central provides the public with Bed Bug TV, a series of entertaining and educational video blogs on issues concerning bed bugs. The site also includes updates on the latest bed bug news. Finally, Bed Bug Central is a resource that can assist the public in identifying pest management professionals across the country that provide bed bug management services that are similar to the multidisciplinary approach created by Bed Bug Central.

An Effective Treatment for Bed Bugs

Written by admin on April 8, 2012 – 11:58 am -

bed bug home remediesTreatment for Bed Bugs

Although the classic “Sleep Tight” bedtime rhyme makes bed bugs seem cute these tiny night time creatures can bite. They are very similar to fleas and live in mattresses and cushions. There are a bunch of different species of bed bugs, each one praying on a different animal. Bed bug treatment requires patience.

Ticks, fleas and bed bugs all have the same way of feeding and can live quite a while without feeding. Bed bugs only have to feed about four times a month. They also only come out for about five minutes. We would not even notice them if it were not for the fact that they irritate skin when they bite.
If you have bed bugs you probably got them from someone else, or something that you brought into your home. A lot of people get them by buying used furniture, clothing, or visiting peoples houses who have them. There are no specific things that you can do to prevent from getting them if you are exposed to them. They are very similar to fleas in this.

How to detect bed bugs?

How you know that you are infested is the appearance of rashes, itching, black or brown spots on your mattress or linens, and possibly in the crevices of your furniture. They are hard to see and many people think they have fleas. Bed bugs are smaller than fleas.

One of the only treatments for bed bugs is to get a mattress cover for your bed. Not the kind that just covers the top of the bed but something similar to a pillow case. These covers zip all the way around the bed. They seal the bed bugs in and basically starve them. This can take anywhere from six to eighteen months.

There are some powders and sprays that you buy to get rid of bed bugs. This is an insecticide and therefore is poisonous. Some of the powders that they have can remain on the bed and some have to be wiped or vacuumed off. There are also spray insecticides. Remember that these are poisons and can be dangerous.

There are also sprays and bed bug kits that contain covers, dusts, and sprays. In order to treat the infestation treating your bed just is not enough. You will need to treat the baseboards, mattress, sheets, linens, pillows, and surrounding furniture.

Combination of treatments for bed bugs

A combination of different treatments is normally the best solution. The kits work well for this. Treat your baseboards and other infested areas, then cover your mattress, and finally make sure you dust everything with the insecticide powder. In order for the cover to completely kill bed bugs in your mattress you need to make sure that you wait at least six months before removing it.

You can pick up bed bugs from a variety of sources and once you have them they are hard to get rid of. When you are treating bed bugs make sure that you are very thorough no matter what treatment that you use. You can use any of treatments mentioned in combination with each other.

When using a cover in conjunction with an insecticide you have to be sure that you let the liquid dry before you cover it to reduce the chance of mildew. When trying to get rid of bed bugs remember to use common sense as well as the chosen treatment or treatments. Bed bug treatment is easy if you are thorough. If you have tried all of these things then it might be time to call in a pest control company.
